What it is
Riverfire is a night of fireworks, music and entertainment at South Bank that opens Brisbane Festival. In 2026 the entertainment started at 5pm and the fireworks at 7pm.
Arriving by car
In 2026, roads around South Bank, Kangaroo Point and the CBD closed from the afternoon, and the Story Bridge was shut to traffic from 6:30 to 8pm. Taxis could set down at the Grey Street ranks (outside QPAC and near the Mantra Hotel) only until 4pm, then at the convention centre rank on Glenelg Street at Merivale Street.
Getting home
Most 2026 closures lifted by 11pm. Taxi pick-ups ran all day from the convention centre rank on Glenelg Street at Merivale Street, and rideshare users were told to check their app for pick-up points.
Good to knowBecause of the closures, the South Bank venue said public transport was the best way to get there for the 2026 event. On the day, check QLDTraffic or call 13 19 40.
